A Short Reflection On Reality.
In summer, I was in my village, eagerly waiting for the night view from the top of my house. When night finally came, the sky was full of stars, twinking from a distance. I knew that I was seeing was actually the past of those stars (red shift). Thinking about the universe, stars, galaxies, and their evolution. But my thoughts remained only scientific just thinking about the reasons of all this.
I felt that something was missing. Do you know what it was? It is the feeling itself!
As humans beings, we developed our nervous system through evolution. Over time, our neuronal networks became more complex, and from this complexity, we somehow developed qualia the ability to have subjective experiences.
The sprite bottle I am holding doesn't have subjective experiences. But animals do have experiences.
The way in which our brain perceives reality is called perceived reality. But actual reality is different from what we perceive with our sense.
So, are the galaxies or stars shining in the distance real, or are they created in our mind?
When we look at the sky, light that has travled for million or billions of year enters our eyes. It then moves through the optic nerve to the visual cortex, Where the brain interprets the information (light that we perceive) and reconstruct them into beautiful starscape we experience. So, are the galaxies and stars real?
Yes, they exist independently of us. But the colors, brightness, meaning, and experiences etc all this is something created inside the mind. We don't see reality exactly as it is; we see it the way our mind shapes it for us.
We can’t see infrared light, X-ray or many other radiation. That's why we built scientific instruments to give us indirect information about them.
In the end, the universe provides the signals, and the mind creates the experience.
